Repair it when the zone was built right and one part failed: a cracked head, a clogged nozzle, a sticking valve. Rebuild it when the zone was built wrong: heads that water at different rates on one valve, spray on the beds, water running off before the lawn has enough. We run every zone first, then quote in writing.
Which sprinkler head goes where, and why not mix them?
Each head waters at its own speed. A fixed spray head waters fast over a short reach. A rotary nozzle or a rotor waters slowly and reaches further, so the soil keeps up. Drip isn’t thrown at all.
Each head on its own valve gets its own run time, so a fast spray lawn and a slow rotor lawn both get what they need. Drip waters each plant, not the ground between.

Fixed spray. A fan of water from a fixed nozzle, for small lawns and tight borders. On low pressure the spray falls short, so heads spaced to meet leave a dry ring between them.

When is a repair enough, and when does a retrofit pay off?
A repair is enough when the zone watered evenly before something broke. A retrofit pays off when it never could.

- Retrofit: Sprays and rotors share a valve. One side is always over- or under-watered.
- Repair: A valve sticks open or weeps. We find the failed part before anything is cut out.
- Retrofit: Water runs off before the lawn has enough. 11 of our 16 towns bar runoff. Rotary nozzles on the same spray bodies slow the water, if the pressure is there.
- Repair: A zone won’t start. The wire and its splices get tested before any part changes.
- Retrofit: Spray lands on beds, walls or the walk. The beds move to drip.
- Repair: Water where there shouldn’t be any. A main-line leak runs all day, every day, until someone finds it.
- Retrofit: Brown rings between heads. The throw falls short, from low pressure or heads set too far apart. More of the same heads won’t fix it; pressure, spacing or a new layout will.

What goes into a new sprinkler and drip system?
A plan before a trench. Lawns, beds and trees go on separate valves, grouped by how fast their heads water, and heads are spaced so each one reaches the next. Then the parts: Rain Bird valves, drip with an inline filter ahead of it, and a Rachio or Hunter Hydrawise smart controller set to your water provider’s hours. Before we leave, every zone runs, every head is adjusted, and you walk the system with us.

After a pressure check.
Rain Bird’s rotary nozzles fit Rain Bird spray bodies, but they need more water pressure than fixed sprays, so we check the pressure first. They also water more slowly, so the schedule changes too.
If the supply has room.
We measure the pressure and flow first, and check the controller for an open station. A new area gets its own valve and heads that match each other, instead of more heads hung on an old zone that is already short of pressure.
